Could someone post instructions on the installation and use of this software.

Thank you

Hi Russ,

First you would need to download and install the .wsp file from your Sharepoint Server. [I typically just load the .wsp file into the same path as the stsadm.exe (ie. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN)]

Run this command:

stsadm –o addsolution –filename SharePointVideoPlayer.wsp
stsadm –o deploysolution –name SharePointVideoPlayer.wsp -allowgacdeployment -local -force

Once you have it setup, you can start using the video player webpart.

It's really great and I thank Alon for creating it.

Now I just need to figure out why the title bar doesn't stay on the site when I tell it too......*heavy sigh*

Once installed  is there a new item  like  "video player"  to add under site items??

This link  is a picture of what i see now.

Thanks Russ

Hello Russ,

the solution is well deployed, but I just cannot find the webpart.

Where should it be ? Is there something else I need to do apart from deploying the solution ?

Thanks,

JC - I do not have it working either.  Russ

Me too. Normally I see wsp's as server site templates, but this is supposed to create a webpart? Maybe it's not a wsp?

What I've tried:

First the normal: stsadm –o addsolution –filename SharePointVideoPlayer.wsp ------ no problem

Then stsadm –o deploysolution –name SharePointVideoPlayer.wsp -allgacdeployment -force -immediate ----- and I get a message "This solution contains resources scoped for a Web application and must be deployed to one or more Web applications." So I retract.

Then stsadm –o deploysolution –name SharePointVideoPlayer.wsp -allcontenturls -force -immediate ----- and I get a message " The solution "SharePointVideoPlayer.wsp" needs to install assemblies in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC). If you fully trust this solution, use the -allowGacDeployment parameter to deploy." So I retract.

Then stsadm –o deploysolution –name SharePointVideoPlayer.wsp -allcontenturls -allgacdeployment -force -immediate --- and I get the message "Timer job successfully created." --- great. Iisreset /restart. Still nothing in web parts or server site tamplates, but central admin says it's deployed. Not Globally, but to my site. So I retract

Then stsadm –o deploysolution –name SharePointVideoPlayer.wsp -allowGacDeployment -local -force ---- my old friend "This solution contains resources scoped for a Web application and must be deployed to one or more Web applications." Returns... So I retract and delete.

I'll tick the email box... hope someone can get it going.

Just for fun I changed it to a cab file and tried addwppack... no. It is well and truly a solution, and stsadm told me to use addsolution.

Found It! It works! The deploy method is OK, it's just the "feature" bit we all skipped.

Site Actions->Site Settings->"Site Features"Under ("Site Administration")->scroll to "SharePoint Video Player" and click "Activate" button.

It will show up as a normal webpart.

I see it in the Site Features in Central Administration.  But, the web part does not appear on my website when I go to add a content editor web part.  I have WSS 3.0, could that be the issue?

You need to enable it on your site, and then you will be able to see in when you add it as a web part.

I also run WSS3.0 and it works great.

I got it to work.  I wasn't looking in the site itself... Duh!

Anyhow, I got it to work.  Is there a way to get the title and border to appear in the Chrome Section?  I want to add a title for the video so people know what they are viewing.

IF you can do that, I would be like to know too.

What I did was use the Sharepoint built-in TitleWebPart to "mimic" that. I haven't figured out a way to do the title via Chrome.

I'm fairly new to Sharepoint and I can't get this bad boy installed.

It shows in my Central Administration > Operations > Solution Management

But it doesn't show on my Site Name> IT Development > Site Settings > Site Features

What can i do to troubleshoot this? I don't see any indicators of problems in the log files, but then again I don't see a SharePointVideoPlayer folder in the 12\TEMPLATE folder either which other sharepoint post suggest I should.

Any ideas?

I managed to find the option to add the SVP as a Column to a Document List, which seems ot be working, but when I click the play button in the list, it creates a window with 2 FLVs of the same thing, any suggestions?

Hi,

As you guys I'm struggling to get this to work. Deployment went with no problems and the feature is deployed to my application. However I do not see the feature when going to the site settings. Any ideas?

Hi -

I am experiencing the same problems as others above.  WSS 3.0, I did what Cskills said on the 8-5-2009 email to Russ.  Receiving the error grendelx received when he tried to deploy (11-01-09).  Tried the site actions thing that grendelx suggested  (same date).  Not showing up.  Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

All,

You need to go to the top level site in the Site Collection and then Site Actions>Site Settings>Site Collection features (not to be confused with Site Features).  You need to activate the feature there and then it will appear in the list of available web parts (it has nothing to do with the Content Editor Web Part).

Hi
I have added this solution to 2010 Foundation.
I have activated it in Central Management by following the steps in the posts above, I also installed it using the stsadm commands.
However, I cannot see it as a webpart.

Any ideas?
